Fundamentalist Christians, I believe in God but how can the Bible literally be the word of God?

Fundamentalist Christians, I believe in God but how can the Bible literally be the word of God?

I believe in the idea of God.

Isn’t the Bible though, actually a large compilation of many books, compiled over many years, that were more or less agreed upon after much struggle and debate?

Doesn’t the Bible from the very beginning, when it says that the earth was created before the sun, to bats being birds, to women being subservient to men, to interpreting floods and other natural catastrophes as being punishment from God, to the superstitious belief in Original Sin, etc. all indicate the biases of early Man and reflect the culture of their times?

The Bible has many good concepts in it, such as “do unto thy neighbor as you would have them do unto you” (an idea that existed long before the Bible, by the way) and so on, but how does that make it literally the ‘word of God’?

Isn’t the Bible, like the Qur’an or other ‘holy books,’ simply a book of moral guidelines with a foundation built on ancient mythology?

The prophecies, like Nostradamus, are mostly vague and can be interpreted to coincidentally fit actual historic events for the most part.

Maybe there are some people from the Bible, to writers like Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, who have an educated knack for predicting the future to a degree, but that’s not really the same thing.

Who knows- maybe there are some people who are genuinely clairvoyant to one degree or another? Science does not fully understand the power of the human mind and its relation to space/time and the universe (or universes).

However, there are very few solid, precisely spelled out prophecies in the Bible though, to conclude that God supernaturally entered the minds of the men who wrote and compiled the Bible, overruling their free will, which God isn’t supposed to do anyway.

Isn’t all you can really say is that they were inspired by their belief in God, rather than God directly?
After all, God does not tell a poet what to write or a painter what to paint. Again, God does not override our free will.
They are ‘inspired’ yes, but why assume that inspiration is some kind of supernatural event?

the bible is literally the word of god just like santa claus literally leaves presents for children

Im Christian and I follow the Bible. But I don’t take it as the “exact” word of God. It is a holy scripture and should be treated as such. But I use it more as a guide line for morals, and what is wrong and what is right.

2 Peter 1v21 ……
For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man,
but men spoke from God as they were carried
along by the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 14v32 ……
The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets.

Graphic of Bible Time-line….

The Earth is the subject matter..…why wouldn’t He?
God created plants before sunlight so no one
could say each day of Creation wasn’t a literal day.

<<< to bats being birds,>>>

Leviticus 11v13 (v19) ……
And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among
the …..*fowls*….. they shall not be eaten they are an abomination the
eagle and the ossifrage and the ospray

The word …..*fowl*….. is….
5775. oph

flying creatures
Original Word: עוֹף
Transliteration: oph
Phonetic Spelling: (ofe)
Short Definition: bird
……..notice it can be as broad as flying creatures.
The context is animals that are not to be eaten.

<<< to women being subservient to men,>>>

Why is this an issue…..I’m subservient to God.

<<< to interpreting floods and other natural catastrophes as being punishment from God,>>>

God told Noah before it happened….it is not interpreted afterwards. Same with Sodom and Gomorrah.

<<< to the superstitious belief in Original Sin, etc.>>>

Yes there is Original Sin …….
That is why God maintained the Israelite/Hebrew people for the 2,000 years that He did, so that there would be continuity to the facts at hand.

<<< all indicate the biases of early Man and reflect the culture of their times?>>>

Then why did the Hebrews not adopt the Egyptian ten day week as is the case with every other conquering civilisation?

Did you know that the Bible is self authenticating?
You may think how could this be or what do I mean?
Well let me explain…..

The Bible is comprised of Hebrew in the Old Testament and Greek in the New Testament. The Hebrews and the Greeks use their alphabets as their numbering system. This means that their words also represent numbers as a co-incidence of this previous fact.

This system of interpreting words as numbers of significance is known as Gematria. For example the number *eight* in the bible is a number that represents a new beginning. The name Jesus in the Greek is Ἰησοῦς where the letter Ἰ=10 η=8 σ=200 ο=70 ῦ=400 ς=200 ….thus the total for His name is 888.

Now this in itself may not be that surprising. But this principle has been applied in a similar fashion to the first verses of the Old and New Testaments. The results are surprising to say the least. The author claims there is a 1 in ten billion chance of it occurring. The formula that is applied is kind of suspicious but since it is the same formula applied to both verses the result achieved for both verses is so unique it is undoubtedly the hand of God.

The results are 3.141554509 and 2.718312812 for Genesis 1v1 and John 1v1 respectively. Which is the value of Pi and e within 0.0012% and 0.0011% respectively!

Please can someone listen to my predictions of the future?

I know what is to come in the future, and its not too bright. I dont have exact dates, but mock my words on these predictions….

The world will be unified by World Leaders coming together with the United States President so that the world can “benefit” from the current devastating world crisis’s.

After the next 4 years:

1) World War III erupts and the United States is completely flattened, nations from the North will make the US a dessert, where no man or animal can live. The US is forced to surrender.

2) In addition to war, the US will be plagued by devastating disasters, including an eruption from the words biggest SUPERVOLCANO located in the North West, Earthquakes of magnitude 9 or greater, Hurricanes of unimaginable force, frequency, and destruction, as well as twister disasters like never seen before. The US will be the most dangerous place on Earth at this time. Leave now, or die later.

3) Sadly, 2/3 of mankind dies in this timeframe, completely unexpected. An object from space will fall into the sea, and 1/3 of all ships will be destroyed, and 1/3 of mankind will die. The rest of the World is left in ruins and the rest of humanity is left too suffer, contaminated water leaves billions in famine. The sky will be darkened world wide because of the smoke plumes in the atmosphere caused by the supervolcano eruption.

3) The earth will become intensely hot, and will burn and scorch people alive, people break out in blistery burn spots on their bodies. A planet, moon, or asteroid will collide with another, in our solar system, causing chunks of immense mass hurdling towards Earth. This causes mega-tsunamis, and it shall fall in the pacific ocean.

4) As result total from war, and these cataclysmic events, the Earths human population is reduced to less than 2 billion.

It is going to be tragic for the world to see America destroyed because she has been the symbol of freedom and hope for the people of earth for over 400 years. Though America will be completely destroyed, the rest of the world will have it almost as bad. It will come a sad time, completely unexpected, as God destroyed the land of Sodom and all its people. For in the time of Noah and the flood, the people ate and drank and continued to live normally, if only they had heeded Noah’s warning of the coming floodwaters, their lives may have been spared. This is how it will be after the coming 4 years… with the ones left behind to weep for their loved ones who had not heeded Gods warning.

I am not a prophet, but I know what is to come in the near future.

God left traces and clues for his “elect” to gather and become aware. The truth is everywhere. Nostradamus. The Bible. Myan Calender. PREDICTIONS THAT ARE FROM PEOPLE AND SOURCES THAT HAVE PREDICTED THE PAST. Mock my words on this. Write it down, so that you can say “I knew this was going to happen” after it happens… so that you can tell yourself NOW, that you KNOW its going to happen. Will you forgive yourself if you did not heed this warning and it came true? All those lives you could have saved? I tell you this world: Leave America, she will be made a land of desolation, and flee from the Coasts, move inland. If you can know the future, you can make good use of it. MAKE GOOD USE OF IT!
Russia? Idk this part. The BIBLE says it all…. read the BIBLE!!!!!

While anyone can guess, it is only a guess. We are not told what is the future other than that there will be wars and rumors of wars.

So America becomes a dessert and the earth becomes intensely hot?
I guess that gives a new meaning to the name “Baked Alaska.” LOL

That America has been “the symbol of freedom and hope for the people of the earth for over 400 years” is interesting being it was a British colony until 1776. (2009-1776=209)

The super volcano you mention has actually been predicted in the past but it is located in the mid-west, I believe it should be in Colorado.

What have you been doing? Peyote? Acid? Something else?
Is it legal and where can I get some?

To answer your initial question: no i can’t, not on the internet.

Ok, i will “mock” your words on this one, what you have said is ridiculous. You are running yourself in cirlces, if 2/3rds of mankind dies, and then 1/3 of mankind dies, that is less than 2 billion. If you are going to throw figures at ME, do your math correctly.

I’m also pretty sure that the bible doesn’t say this, if it did, you wouldn’t be the only one telling us.

If the earth was so hot that it burned humans alive just from intense heat, all plant life would be destroyed immediately and before long there wouldn’t be any people left to burn alive or dead.

Um, i appreciate your concern but i think i will continue to live my life. None of this is likely to happen.

I will mock your words. I can’t wait for America to become a dessert. Parfait, I hope. And 2 billion people? I figured it would be much less.

  5. kbcosp420 June 19, 2012 at 1:38 pm #

Please for your sake and others, stay off the drugs.
Besides, for one, if the supervolcano did erupt, the earth would not get extremely hot in any way. The plume would extend all the way around the world and cool the earth by many degrees. Again, please stay off the drugs and quit staring at those psychadelic posters, they are rotting your brain. Wacko.

There’s no such thing as psychic powers. But making predictions based on the way things are going? Well, it’s OK to make predictions. Only time will tell if there is any accuracy in your predictions.

Nut jobs like you are the very reason Christians are mocked.

Canada and the Aleutians are going to defeat the US, good show.

    A dessert? YUMM!

    sorry tl;dr

besides, why should we believe that YOU even believe you can predict the future? and if you believe it, why should we believe it? how did you come upon this ability? is this a foretelling or a simple prognostication based on your own reasoning?

  12. Mokele Mbembe June 19, 2012 at 9:14 am #

I hope America does become a “dessert.” That would be sweet!
Thank you for today’s dose of bullsh*t.
